Hands

Ok. So here is the often requested information on hands. In general- just so everybody knows- when I actually need references for hands (including for this tutorial thingy) I use my own. If I can't get the look I need just by looking at my own hand, sometimes I will pose it the way I want, and use my other hand to take a snapshot.

Just in case you can't read my handwriting, here is everything that the paper says: There are two major joints on the thumb and three for every other finger. Where the joints are, is where you want to put a lot of detail. The very tops of each finger are slightly flat due to your fingernail! SO if you are drawing your hand in a pose where you can see the fingernails, draw the top slightly flat.

Also on the writing on the right: The three joints you can see in the middle, I pointed out on the outside of the larger hand (though the little one shows it too). As you can see, on the inside of each finger there are FOUR places where you want to show a lot of detail. Those are the places that, when we bend our fingers, our skin wrinkles up. XD

And the very bottom is an interesting way to draw hands. I started out with a simple "circle-line" skeleton, went on to draw simple clawed hands (it helps me sometimes, I dunno why), and then I actually drew the hand using the claw form. It I ever draw the claw, in general I try to draw my hands OVER it.
